What should I expect during the session?
-
•When you arrive, there will be an initial intake to gather information about specific physical and emotional issues.
-
•After this, the Reiki session will begin:
-
•You will lay face up on a massage table fully clothed (chair sessions are also available);
-
•A tissue is placed over your eyes to help you focus inwards;
-
•A pillow is placed under your neck or knees if you want (this helps take the pressure off the spine);
-
•The lights will be dimmed, and some soft, soothing music will be played in the background. Aromatherapy may also be incorporated at the client’s request;
-
•You may set an intention if you wish;
-
•I will establish a connection with the Reiki energy and the client by touching the shoulders. Then, my hands will either hover above the body or rest lightly on the body as the energy travels through my hands into your body;
-
•I may work from head to toe, or spend a lot of time in one area where there is pain or disease, or quite simply, where there is a need to disperse or replenish energy;
-
•At times, I may suggest certain breathing techniques, meditation or visualization techniques.
-
•After the session, you will have some time alone to rest, reflect and integrate the effects of the session. There will also be some time after the session to talk about how the energy affected you personally, to answer any questions you might have, and to ground yourself before you leave.
-
•Note: In Reiki, there is no such thing as a typical session. EAch time is different and experiential. The entire session is typically around 90 minutes;
-
•A Reiki practitioner only works with the Chakras or areas of specific pain;
-
•There is no need for touching where it might not be expected or appreciated.
It is important to understand that although the practitioner plays an important role in the proper execution of Reiki techniques, it is the universal life energy that does the healing, not the practitioner.
